The Expert Forum of BNUBS (Session 120) Was Successfully Held in Changping Campus

On the evening of November 17, 2023, The Expert Forum of BNUBS (Session 120) was held in the lecture Hall No. 2, Teaching Complex Building, Changping Campus. Weng Xi, Professor of Applied Economics, Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, Youth Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education and winner of the National Science Foundation Outstanding Youth Science Fund, gave a lecture. Professor Zhang Pingan, Associate Dean of BNUBS, Associate Professor Xu Minbo, Director of the Department of Economics, Associate Professor Zhu Min, and doctoral students of Changping campus attended the meeting. The lecture was hosted by Xu Minbo and streamed live via Yangtze River Rain Class.

The topic of this report is "The Economic Theory of Dynamic Pricing". Professor Weng first started from the phenomenon of dynamic pricing on digital platforms, explained the various theoretical explanations in economics, and introduced the theoretical framework of dynamic learning. Then, taking the Bandit Problems as an example, he demonstrated in detail the importance of dynamic learning in economic decision-making and discussed the pricing strategies of dynamic learning under different market structures through a simple theoretical model. Finally, Professor Weng extended the discussion of dynamic pricing and promotional incentive strategies considering the cost of information collection with his latest collaborative paper.

Professor Weng's detailed lectures and rigorous academic attitude greatly inspired the participating teachers and students. In the exchange session, Professor Weng patiently answered the questions raised by the teachers and students, and everyone highly appreciated and thanked Professor Weng for his wonderful sharing.
